Sangram was the first Indian to sign a death contract for Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Championship. As per the terms of the contract, the organizers can’t be held responsible for any casualty that occurs during the last man standing match. Although Sangram was recovering from an injury and had not fought professionally for more than three years, the wrestler chose this monumental fight to mark his return. In this fight, he went on to make the country proud by defeating Canada’s Joe Legend to win the Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Championship at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in South Africa on July 18, 2015. He won the same championship again in 2016 in South Africa. He had also earned the title of Best Professional Wrestler in the year 2012.
